BT answer the call for more city apprenticeships

BT apprenticeships

The communications giant BT is to recruit 24 modern apprentices at its Dundee call centre this summer. The news comes amid fears that the city is falling behind the rest of the country in providing enough apprenticeship opportunities for young people.
The BT apprenticeships are welcome news for the city and it is hoped that other employers will follow suit with similar announcements as we reach the end of the school and college term.
Unlike many other shorter schemes, the BT customer service apprenticeships take  two years and the apprentices work towards recognised vocational qualifications. In addition they are to receive in house training with a salary rising to £17,000 by the end of the two year apprenticeship.
Ronnie Davidson is a careers adviser with ApprenticeshipsinScotland.com the social enterprise project which is helping to bring more youth opportunities to Dundee. He said “these are terrific entry level opportunities to train as a BT business customer adviser and will set you up for a great career in telecommunications service and business to business account management. We are trying our best to stimulate demand from employers by showing just how valuable young people can be to a business. Our project employs a core team of 4 modern apprentices to run the service and employers like BT are impressed by their skills and enthusiasm.”
BT is recruiting now and again mid-summer to attract candidates to apply for the scheme. For information on how to apply, visit www.apprenticeshipsinscotland.com.
