Apprentice earns a royal appointment




AN ASPIRING carpenter has been given a royal appointment to improve a stately home saved by Prince Charles.
Raymond Alvsvag, 23, who is a carpentry apprentice at Canterbury College, is one of only 10 people in the UK to be awarded a scholarship on The Prince's Foundation's Building Skill In Craft apprenticeship scheme.
After he completes a Level 3 NVQ in Wood Occupations at the college this month, Raymond will join the Prince's Foundation at Dumfries House in Scotland.
At the summer school, students will design and construct a garden feature on the Dumfries Estate with input from the community, over a four month period.
Raymond, from Chartham, said: "I was amazed to get it.
"Working there is going to be a big honour."
