Rapidly-evolving
oil and gas services company Sparrows is creating employment opportunities in
the North-east of Scotland for the industry’s next generation after today
announcing that it plans to take on nine new apprentices this summer.
Aberdeen headquartered
Sparrows, specialists in offshore lifting and mechanical handling services, is
looking to the future as it provides an opportunity for those looking to make
their way into the world of work in the coming months.Positions for two apprentices each in the field of design draughtsmen, electricians and hydraulic technicians are to be filled. Single posts have been made available for a machinist, mechanic and plater/welder.
The number of new recruits adds to the 14 existing apprentices currently learning their trades with the company. As part of the progression apprentices spend time working towards their qualifications at Banff and Buchan College as part of a day release programme.
Dave Cockburn, executive director for Engineering Development, said: “We recognise the value in people serving the traditional apprenticeships and have a system in place where they will spend time in the business learning different skills. In parallel, we want them to achieve academically.
“Sparrows provides experts in a niche sector and bringing in apprentices gives us the opportunity to ensure they are trained to the highest standards. The proof of the pudding is that a high percentage of people who have served apprenticeships are enjoying long-term careers within the organisation.”
Sparrows is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the opportunity is there to progress to chartered engineer status. READ MORE
