Ryder Cup apprenticeship on offer

The chance to play a role in one of the world’s greatest sporting events will be offered to one lucky young person in Perth and Kinross.
An apprenticeship tied to the Ryder Cup, coming to Gleneagles in 2014, has been made available by the local council.
It is one of a number of apprenticeships offered in the region and was announced as part of Scottish Modern Apprenticeship Week.
The customer service apprenticeship will offer a chance to get involved in everything from answering telephone inquiries to updating web information about one of the world’s most watched events.
A staggering 17,500 people have already volunteered to offer their services to the event, with a lucky 1,800 chosen to be part of it.
Open to anyone over the age of 16, modern apprenticeships offer a means of gaining skills and qualifications without having to study full-time, to help start a career.
Perth and Kinross Council already has nearly 80 young people working as apprentices and is developing new posts. Alongside the Ryder Cup opportunity, it is also offering two apprenticeships in facilities management, which will provide experience in everything from the smooth running of buildings to school crossing duties.
