Liz Lochhead's apprentices perform new poetry collection
A ‘Clydebuilt apprenticeship’ conjures up pictures of the hustle and bustle of Glasgow’s shipyards, fresh-faced trainees building steamers and memories of the city’s industrial heyday.
But the terminology has been redefined by a group of writers who have just completed their apprenticeship as part of the Clydebuilt poetry programme, guided by Scotland’s Makar Liz Lochhead.
Now in its sixth year, the project gives new writers the opportunity to receive support and dialogue from more experienced poets.
Each group is asked to adopt a west of Scotland based ship with the Clydebuilt Three group using the SS North Light as the namesake for their anthology of poems.
William Bonar, Irene Hossack, Eveline Pye, Samuel Tongue and Nuala Watt will be presenting poetry from the North Light book, at the double launch in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The five poets spent a year working with mentor Liz Lochhead, through the project coordinated by St Mungo’s Mirrorball and Glasgow Life.
