West Dunbartonshire Council bid for youth jobs cash




An ambitious bid to improve young people’s chances of getting a job is being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.
The plans to apply for a share of a £25million grant were announced as figures show the region has the third highest youth unemployment rate in Scotland.
Despite a massive effort by the council to improve training and job opportunities among 18-24 year olds, 12.4 per cent of young people in West Dunbartonshire are still unemployed, with 1,040 people claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance.
West Dunbartonshire is third worst for youth unemployment behind both East and North Ayrshire where up to 14.3 per cent of youngsters are out of jobs.
Making the announcement, council leader Martin Rooney told of his disappointment at the West Dunbartonshire figures. He said: “The council will be making an application for additional funding from the Youth Employment Scotland Fund before April 12 and I am confident that we will be successful with our application.”...READ MORE
