They’ll join the existing 30 modern apprentices in a range of areas including business administration, youth work, sport and leisure and customer service.
The council has made an additional £420,000 available for the recruitment this year. Further investment of £150,000 from the Coastal Communities Fund will see the Modern Apprentice programme having an impact across the hospitality and tourism sector within Inverclyde.
There are also opportunities in the ‘Get Ready for Work’ programme, with more than £114,000 awarded from Skills Development Scotland employability fund, to give 40 young people aged 16 and 17 years the opportunity to take part in pre-employment training in a variety of settings including community and leisure centres across Inverclyde.
Inverclyde’s regeneration vice-convener Councillor Jim Clocherty said: "We have a strong track record for maximising training and opportunities for young people. Inverclyde sits at the very top of the country when it comes to school leavers going on to positive destinations. Our employment programmes are perfect opportunities for young people across Inverclyde to gain work experience and training to put them on the first steps to the world of work.”
