Employers shown the value of Modern Apprenticeships

In June, at the Royal Highland show, Jim McLaren, Chairman of Quaility Meat Scotland and a Perthshire farmer, spoke at a workshop run by Lantra Scotland, about the benefits to both employer and employee of engaging with the Modern Apprenticeship Scheme.

Jim's Endorsement of the scheme was supported at the workshop by a number of other influential members of Scottish rural industry, including; Jamie Smart from NFU Scotland, Graeme Ligertwood from SRUC and Ishbel Crawford, Regional Partnership Manager at Lantra.

Now, with the new academic year approaching, and students turning their attention to their future education and careers, Lantra Scotland is keen to illustrate to employers and employees the value of a Modern Apprentice and how it demonstrates a sound business investment.

Willie Fergusson, National Director of Lantra Scotland, says:

"All of the work that we at Lantra Scotland do with regard to Modern Apprenticeships and Vocational Learning is focused around making sure that the scheme fits with the needs of farmers and other land-based employers, as well as delivering real benefit to the apprentices themselves.

"We are raising the ambition of farmers to invest in skills training and show them the benefits and the Modern Apprenticeship is a great way of doing this.  There is no better way for a new entrant to come into agriculture than through a programme which helps to raise both qualifications and skills." ...READ MORE
