Edinbane Community Company has announced the launch of an apprenticeship scheme to support businesses taking on apprentices within the Edinbane post code area.
Roddy Macfarlane, a director of ECC said that following discussions with Construction Skills and Skills Development Scotland it became apparent that the main area of difficulty for small businesses is covering the salary of apprentices while they are away on training.
He added: “We also looked at a similar scheme being run through the Ardgay wind farm community benefit scheme in Sutherland which is being run with the support of the Scottish Community Foundation, who will also be helping us with the administration of our scheme.”
The scheme is not intended to replace any existing schemes run by the construction industry or through SDS where support usually takes the form of course fees, costs of travel and accommodation when attending courses. Support is based on a three-year apprenticeship and intends to cover the hourly rate employment costs to the employer of an apprentice attending offsite training in recognition of the fact that this is often a difficult cost for a small business to cover...
